⚠️After working with hundreds of people over the years, supplements continue to be one of the most misunderstood topic.

▶️“Tej, can’t I just take what I’ve got in my cupboard from the pharmacy?”

▶️“Aren't supplements just a gimmick and they don't really do anything?”

▶️“Can’t I just get everything I need from food?”

Here are 6 facts about supplements that you need to know

:

1. Most supplements are unnecessary

There are few supplements that are shown to work and many that are sold are often poorly formulated.

Even those turmeric capsules you take or have in the cupboard are mostly useless and irrelevant.

2. Certain supplements can be helpful & necessary

Some supplements have shown to make a definite difference to manage cravings, energy, recovery, sleep & exercise performance.

Supplements like vitamin D, Iron & folate may be essential for certain people.

3. Many supplements aren't tested for quality

That cod liver oil you take or your Bolland & Harrett fish oil is probably not good ;)

Many supplements aren’t tested to ensure the quality.

They can contain added fillers and certain products have found to be contaminated with illegal substances and when tested have shown to contain harmful microbes.

When products are third party tested, many of them are shown to contain a lot less than what they claim, or in some instances, contain toxic amounts of the advertised agent.

4. Supplement manufacturers can claim almost anything

  • ‘Melts body fat’

  • ‘Increases testosterone’

  • ‘Balances hormones’

They can almost claim anything (except treat or cure).

So you may often see labels claiming they do all sorts, when in fact they often don’t stack up to their claims.

5. Cheap supplements from the pharmacy won’t cut it

This is an extension of point 3 but supplement quality really matters.

Supplements with proprietary blends and low dosage formulas just won’t cut if you’re looking for an effective dose.

If you are using supplements you’ll need supplements with therapeutic doses of bio-available nutrients that have been well formulated.

That includes the forms that the minerals/vitamins are in and if they contain or have the synergetic ingredients that aid that

6. Supplements interact with medication

If you’re taking medication then you’ll most certainly need to inform your GP or health professional.

That's what you're told anyway.

The issue with that is from my experience is that the GP or the health pro' won't have the foggiest about what you're taking.

Go one step further, gain the confidence and hire a nutrition professional to help you navigate the supplement maze.

Just be aware that your supplements and medication may interact and cause unwanted symptoms or worse.
